Belated Happy Valentines....

This just seemed to be the perfect Valentine posting.... being that this day was supposed to mark the point in the year when birds paired up with their mates, I thought this was perfect!  We've only ever had, in the 8 yrs we've been here - 1 lonely Goldfinch ever visit our bird table and it was great excitement when yesterday I spotted 2 on the niger seed feeder... and they're there again today so maybe here to stay... I do hope so!
So if like me you like Goldfinches, do put out a feeder filled with Niger Seed and be patient... it's all worth it :-)

Hello Miranda!
I've only just noticed your new postings - good to see you back again!
I love goldfinches and it's really good that you've got a potential breeding pair there.

Oh, how sweet! I love to see little pairs of birds. These are beautiful - and how nice that you got a shot of them together eating their Valentine's day dinner! :)

How lovely and a nice Valentine gift for you :-)

I do get lots in my garden although just lately the rather aggressive Greenfinches have been frightening them off somewhat. I find the Goldfinches only go to the Niger seed feeder when they can't get near the Sunflower heart feeders.

Hi Sandra - many thanks for your kind comments - sorry I'm not always around on the blogging front... a lot depends on work and am making the most of having a slightly quieter start to this year due to all the cold weather - will be back in full swing before v. long! Hope all good your end - take care Miranda x

Holley Garden - thank you so much for visiting my blog for the first time I think... it's a great time of year seeing all the birds pairing up and hope these two might be here to stay... time will tell! Have a good week - Miranda

Shysongbird - lovely to hear from you... sorry for my absence of late - last year was a v.v busy year workwise and there never seemed enough spare time to do my blog and visit all the ones I've enjoyed such as yours' - I miss it actually! Interesting you should mention the Greenfinches - in past years we've always had loads of them here but not nearly so many this year - maybe the reason the Goldfinches have a chance plus also this is the first year of hanging up a niger feeder - it did take some time though before they found it! Hope all good with you - will pop over to your blog again v. soon - Miranda x

I have niger seed for the goldfinches as well. They love it. And I love watching them.

Almost 'charming' Miranda ;-)

Great garden visitors, we've seen them bring young to our garden feeders. They are fun to watch, hope you get to see this too.

You asked me a question on my blog. It was some time ago we did this so details a bit sketchy. Was planning an updated version myself. Will let you know how that goes :-)

Sage Butterfly - thankyou for visiting my blog - Goldfinches have always been amongst my favorite birds and have seen loads in other people's gardens but never here so when I was back in the UK before Christmas I got a Niger feeder and got loads of bird food too - so much cheaper in the UK than here :-) Seems it was all worth it! Take care Miranda

Hi Shirl - great to have you visit my blog again - Goldfinch babies sounds rather cute... we're pretty lucky with other young birds coming into the garden - one of my favorites are the Woodpeckers! Just hope my work doesn't take over this year to the extent it did last year giving no time for my blog -must admit I did miss it :-( - do keep me posted if you manage to find a way of updating the rather limited "Sharing" tools after each post - take care Miranda x

e get a lot of goldfinches at our bird table and although they do eat the niger seed (and scatter it everywhere) they seem to prefer the sunflower seeds.

Hi Miranda,
Thanks for visiting my blog. Glad I've discovered yours. Looking forward to visiting regularly. So glad your goldfinch has got a mate. That's how things started in my garden, and now I get regular visits from a charm of about 30 goldfinches. I used to feed mine on niger seed, but now I give them sunflower hearts, and they absolutely adore them.
