I was going to do a posting later this week but after discovering an Emperor Moth out on my walk with Lucy this evening I just had to post this straight away... along with one or two other pictures that I've taken in and around the garden these last few days...
The moth was almost at ground level hanging onto a Buttercup stem so I was lucky to see it - the first one I've seen ever and quite stunning with it's little furry body and interesting antenae!
Then alongside this I thought you might enjoy Mr Toad who I discovered under a pile of leaves - a great help when it comes to ridding the garden of some of the slugs and snails!
Walking around the garden this afternoon I thought I'd take some pictures of some of the other lovely flowers we've got out at the moment - I love all the hardy geraniums and the garden is full of different varieties... the earliest out are these deep purple Geranium phaeum and then I spotted this other one... the variety escapes me right now...

Does that Emperor moth look like a face, or what. That' scare of predators ten times his size! Mr. Toad's no slouch at camouflage himself.
Isn't it a great time of year for flowers bursting into colour. Mr. Toad was very well camouflaged and well done on discovering the Emperor Moth - what a beauty.
The picture of your iris is really lovely. Couldn't agree more about seeing a rainbow - always something quite magical.
Hi Jim- many thanks for visiting my blog - the ways in which wildlife camouflage themselves or stand out so that they can scare of predators is amazing - just one of the wonders of nature.
Hi Tricia - good to hear from you and thanks for your kind comments and glad you liked all the pics - photos are great but they don't always capture everything!
Have a good week - Miranda
Hi Miranda.....the moth is beautiful.....I think some of them are prettier than butterflies......
I could use Mr Toad here, something is having a field day with my hostas at the moment......
There is something special about a rainbow.......havn't seen one for ages.....
Have a good week.......
Mr Toad looks quite rotund so he must have scoffed quite a few slugs for you. I agree about rainbows - there is something magical about them and I don't seem to see them very often.
The moth is superb.
A double rainbow is special! You are so right the moth is furry looking! gail
Dear Cheryl - glad you liked the Moth - it really was beautiful. Mr Toad was excellent - reminded me of a grumpy old man - all scrunched up having a snoozed under the pile of leaves... mind you being disturbed whilst you're sleeping would be enough to make anyone grumpy!!
Hi Easygardner - amazing we seem to get quite a few rainbows here - something of the recent weather and if the forecast is anything to go by we might well get more next week! Thanks for visiting!
Hi Gail - I know the photo of the rainbow doesn't show the double very well - it disappeared rather quickly... but it was still v special! Hope all's going well in your garden..
Bonne weekend tous le monde... Mx
That moth is amazing! What a great shot to capture. Cheers!
Hi Avis - welcome to my blog as I think this must be your first comments - glad you liked the moth photo - I was lucky to see it as it was almost at ground level in long grass!
The Hawkmoth's a beaut
Thanks St - it was such a lovely surprise to see it and great that it was still in the same place having rushed home for my camera!
