After rearing a family somewhere in our woodland, December 2008 was the first that I've seen our Great Spotted Woodpecker at the bird table - firstly at the coconut halves and since discovering the peanuts it's been no turning back! Since returning after Christmas I've not seen him at all and then this morning... there he was so attempted taking some pictures through the bedroom window...

How lovely Miranda - Woodpeckers are one of my favourite birds - perhaps because I see them so rarely.
Same with the lovely nuthatch yesterday.
Happy New Year.
K
It was nice to hear from you! That is a very handsome wooodpecker, and the Nuthatches are darling. They are blessed to have such good care.
It is interesting to hear of the severe weather everywhere. We got another 6 inches of snow last night and it is still coming down.
All the best to you in 2009, and may your garden flourish!
Hi Karen - thanks for your kind comments and Happy New Year to you too! I'm now waiting for the long-tailed tits to brave it to the bird table and that would make my year!
Hi Connie - this week with the start of the cold weather seems to have brought out all the bloggers! Talking of snow I hear we might get some here tomorrow - we'll see!
Take care - Miranda
Hi Miranda, bit of forward planning, keep the Easter Weekend in mind - there's another bird challenge coming...... spread the word. Andrew

Thistlebrooms welcome to my blog - thanks so much for your kind compliments - really glad you liked the pictures! See you again soon & Happy New Year! Miranda
What great bird action you get at your feeder, particularly the woodpeckers! I hear them a lot, but don't see them much: too many trees. I enjoyed your photos.
